Here is the 2009 lineup of Bear Archery Compound Bows

Truth 2 – “No single characteristic defines this bow’s performance. The TRUTH 2 is a total system advancement,” say the engineers at Bear. “You won’t know how good this bow feels for yourself until you get your hands on one,” says Will Primos of Primos Hunting Calls. We set out to change a few things. After months of focus and collaboration, we changed everything. The result: The TRUTH 2 raises the bar again for performance that is well above price.

Done Deal – It’s a DONE DEAL for speed, power and feel. Outside of The TRUTH 2, this bow benefits the most from the collaboration of the Bear and Primos engineering and hunting teams. It’s feature-packed and is sure to become known as one of the world’s most intriguing archery weapons. Shoot one to truly understand how smooth it is. Developed in the finest tradition of Bear Archery — performance that far exceeds price. It’s about the hunt…your hunt.

Game Over – It’s GAME OVER when you are looking for one of the most forgiving bows. And the game is over when you compare this bow — feature for feature — to any comparably priced bow on the market. This bow features many enhancements developed for The TRUTH 2 and DONE DEAL. The GAME OVER takes “performance above price” to a new level.

Lights Out – LIGHTS OUT is the most maneuverable bow in the Bear line — with the shortest axle-to-axle measurement and lightest weight. Yet, an 8.75in. brace height allows this bow to retains a high degree of forgiveness. It’s every bit a Bear bow. Try one; you will be surprised at the level of performance in this modestly priced piece of shooting equipment.

Show Down – Built on the success of Bear’s “Element” bow design, SHOWDOWN brings performance and feel that rival bows costing much more. A field-proven cam system allows speeds of 290 fps IBO. The parallel limbs with pivoting limb cups create a smooth-shooting, high-performing value that would make Fred Bear proud.

Young Gun – The YOUNG GUN is the closest you can get to “Dad’s bow.” Developed in collaboration with Team Primos®, it has all the bones of the TRUTH 2 to give your “young gun” every advantage to learn the traditions of hunting and the most subtle tactics of shooting. Like The TRUTH 2, it’s a smooth performer – with cast machined aluminum riser, compression-molded limbs, pivoting aluminum cast limb cups, dual-arc string suppressors, even axel-mounted vibration dampeners. But, most important, this bow’s cam (unique to Bear) offers 14 draw length positions to grow with your young archer.

Octane 2009 Trip Wire Arrow Rest

Ready, set, launch. It’s that simple with the new Trip Wire arrow rest. The titanium launcher drops at a triggered rate, allowing the launcher to stay in the up position longer. This gives the arrow support and guidance for bull’s-eye accuracy. The Trip Wire’s lightning speed provides optimal fletching clearance and is forgiving. Additionally, you can set the launcher to remain in the up position until you take a shot. This minimizes arrow wandering whenever you have to draw and let down. Molded with an abrasion-resistant dampening material for complete silence on the draw and at the shot. Quick and easy setup. Right-hand only.

Trophy Ridge Drop Shot

Each Trophy Ridge Drop Away Rest gets out of the way faster than any other rests on the market. Guaranteed drop away every time û no-fletch contact. Bottom line û your shot is quiet, accurate, repeatable
It’s a new, simple drop away design that is the lightest and most compact way to achieve completely unobstructed vertical drop. Thorough high-speed photography tests reveal that there is no effect on the arrow during release as the arm quickly swings away on dual sealed ball bearings. Rubber dampeners mean there is no metal-to-metal contact during draw or release û it’s silent.

NAP BloodRunner Broadheads

NAP’s BloodRunner sets a new standard in lethality. The new BloodRunner’s hybrid design combines the reliability of a full 1″ cutting diameter fixed blade with the gruesome blood trails only a 1 1/2″ cutting diameter mechanical broadhead can deliver. BloodRunner’s Slide-Hammer effect drives the hardened steel tip through bone and cartilage with authority and super thick .036″ Diamized stainless steel blades, scalpel sharp, slice through tissue as if it were not there. In the last few years lighted nocks for arrows have become very popular and much more reliable than they were when they first came out a few years ago. I personally use them on my hunting arrows so I have a better idea where I hit an animal, which gives me instant feedback on whether I made a perfect or less than perfect hit. Let’s take a look at a few of the different lighted nocks on the market.

Easton archery bought out Tracer nocks a couple years ago and made some improvements on an already very well designed nock. The Tracer nock is activated by a magnet that you attach to your riser shelf. When the arrow passes by the magnet the nock lights up for 30 seconds and then goes into a blinking mode to conserve battery life. The nocks battery life is rated for 90 hours; however, once you have a few hours of use you will notice they aren’t as bright. This isn’t a big concern if you are using them mostly for hunting and you usually don’t shoot too often.

Another brand of lighted nocks is the Lumenock which differs from the Tracer nocks magnetic activation. The Lumenok is the most popular lighted nock on the market and simply turns on by the force of the arrow being shot.  The simplicity of its design and operation make it the lighted arrow nock of choice for many of today’s most progressive archers and professional bow hunters. The Lumenok adds only a few grains of weight to your arrow. No magnets are required for Lumenok function. Minimal arrow shaft end preparation and fitting are required for proper Lumenok function.

Firenock is one of the more recent additions to the lighted nock market. Firenocks use what they call the “G Switch”, This is the same technology as the 2nd arming switch in modern missiles.  (i.e. it needs to sense a specific acceleration before it can be armed.  This technology eliminates accidental misfire/self arming).  Firenock “G” series is really a high-tech piece of equipment with the hunter’s designs in mind.

Arrows are a very important part of your archery equipment, and although they look the same at first glance, today’s modern technology gives manufacturers the ability to make arrows out of many types of materials.  Let’s take a look at some options when choosing an arrow.

Wood arrows have been around hundreds of years when you look back at archery’s history. Today, however, wood arrows are seldom used because they offer little durability and they are not a consistently straight arrow compared to others.

Aluminum was a very popular choice up until recently, although many archers still prefer aluminum especially with target archers. The biggest con of using aluminum arrows is they are easily bendable when they hit an object other than the target. In a hunting situation, when the arrow passes through the animal and strikes the ground, rocks, or trees, they can bend slightly without the hunter knowing. The next time the arrow is shot, you will have inconsistent results.

Carbon has become the popular choice of bow hunters because it is very durable and will not bend. The arrow is either straight or will break from hitting a hard object. Carbon is very light weight for the amount of material actually needed to make an arrow. Some companies also combine other materials to the carbon such as Kevlar, which makes the arrow even more durable. One thing to keep in mind when using carbon arrows is to make sure the arrows hasn’t splintered from use. This can cause injury if a splintered arrow decides to break apart on the shot.

Just when you think that Mathews cannot make a better bow than anything that they already have out, they go and put out a couple of bows that really are unbelievable. 2009 is a great year to buy a new Mathews. Mathews generally comes out with one main bow, but this year they came out with two great bows.

The Reezen 6.5 and 7.0 are the bread and butter single cam technology. The Reezen is actually the fastest single cam on the market today and the most parallel limb bow. With an IBO speed of 340fps the Reezen 6.5 is fast, smooth and quiet. The first time that I shot the Reezen I couldn’t believe how smooth of a draw cycle it was. I thought that with 340fps you would have to give up the smooth draw that Mathews always have, but I was wrong. The bow draws great. The Reezen is 32” axle to axle which makes for the perfect length for hunting, short but still long enough to be accurate. The only difference between the Reezen 6.5 and 7.0 is the brace height. I personally would recommend the 6.5, the way that the bow is designed it would be hard to notice the difference in brace height and the 6.5 is going to be faster. Also, the Reezen has some new technology  with String Grubs reducing string vibration and gaining more speed.  The Harmonic Stabalizer is another innovation incorporated into the Reezen which dampens more than 75% of residual vibration, giving the bow little recoil and hardly any hand shock on the shot. If you have not gotten to your Mathews dealer to try and shoot the new Reezen you definetly need to. It will give you a reason to buy a new Mathews.

Mathews other big bow for 2009 is a little different than what you’ll usually find from Mathews. The Monster bow is a twin cam split limb bow that is built for serious speed. With the newest most advanced dual cam technology, the AVS (Advanced Vectoring System) is extremely fast, but also very forgiving and smooth drawing. With an IBO speed of 353fps the Monster is the smoothest drawing speed bow that I have ever shot. Recoil and hand shock are extremely low for a bow that is 353fps and the Monster has a very solid back wall with 80% letoff. The AVS cam is the most efficient  dual cam system on the market and when you try and shoot the Monster you will know why. The Monster has some other new technology besides the cam system. Quad V Lock Limbs are more durable and longer lasting than any previous limb from Mathews and like the Reezen, the Monster also has the Harmonic Stabalizer and String Grub on the bow. The Monster has a 6” brace height and is 33.5” axle to axle which makes it very stable. If you are in the market for a bow and are looking to gain speed make sure you check out the Monster. You will not be disappointed. It’s quieter, smoother and has a better feel than any other bow in it’s class.

Several years ago, Tru Glo inc. released the Apex Gear line of accessories.  The Apex line of sights represents Tru-Glo’s many years of experience in producing top quality, user friendly bow sights.  Two of these sights in particular are designed with the bow hunter in mind.

The Apex Nitrus is the first of these available in four and six pin versions as well as .029 or .019 fiber sizes to suit any situation that a bow hunter might encounter.  Another feature that is new on the Nitrus four pin sight is the absence of red pins.  The alternating green and yellow pins stay visible in the woods for a much longer period of time.  The Nitrus is also available with several adjustment options that include standard dovetails, micro adjustment capabilities, and a micro adjustable sight with a 5 inch removable sight bar.

The other sight from Apex is the Atomic.  This sight is available in one, four, and six pin configurations to suit any archer’s needs.  It is available in both pin sizes as well.  The unique feature of the atomic is a rotating sight bar that makes for one of the largest amounts of elevation adjustment in the industry.

This pair of sights also boasts aluminum construction for extreme durability, pins that protect the fiber optic in a cradle of aluminum, glow in the dark aiming ring, and comes standard with a purple haze light to ensure you will be able to see your pins when the trophy of a lifetime steps into your shooting lane.  One of these top quality sights from Apex Gear would be a perfect match for your hunting rig.

If there is such a thing as the best bow for a person’s money, then the Mission Archery Eliminator would be a top contender for the title.  At just under $500, the Eliminator is a value priced bow packed full of high end features.

At first glance the archer sees the parallel limbs and thinks quiet, shock free shooting.  The perimeter weighted cam is perfectly balanced to further smooth out the shot.  The cam working along with the limbs can propel an arrow toward the target at an impressive 319 FPS IBO.  Each Eliminator also comes with string cushions and the all new D-amplifier system.  This whisper quiet bow was also designed with the bow hunter in mind.  It is just 30.25 ATA and weighs in at just over 4 pounds making it compact and a dream to carry on any hunt.  The Eliminator was also designed to be versatile enough to fit archers of almost any size.  Its draw length can be adjusted from 24 to 30 inches and peak draw weights of 40 all the way to 70 are available.

Mission archery also produces top notch accessories that are designed to match this bow perfectly and has several pre- assembled packages available.  They feature a sight, rest, quiver, stabilizer, and a wrist sling. Prices of these packages range anywhere from $90 up to $250 and the technology of the accessories increase along with the price.

Whether you are a beginning archer or a seasoned veteran, the Mission Eliminator is a bow that delivers performance even the most demanding archer would be proud of.

With everyone looking to have that little edge when they are in the woods many hunters are looking for the most durable and adjustable accessories they can find.  When hunters look for sights, micro adjust and protected pins are at the top of the want list.  With Axcel Sights first endeavor in the hunting sight market I think they have a Boone & Crocket.

The Armortech HD is the product of years of target shooting experience and a desire to produce the best hunting sight on the market.  The Armortech comes with all the bells and whistles that you would look for in a high end sight.  It features tool-less full micro adjust wind-age and elevation, full micro adjust pins available in 4,5 or 7 pin  configuration as well as .019 or .010 dia. fibers.  The Armortech also has the 2nd and 3rd axis adjustments for fine tuning the sight for long range shooting.  These features are not unheard of in the hunting sight world but not many sights out there have them.  Where the Axcel sight takes the lead is in pins and the scope design.  The pins feature a stainless steel tube that full encloses the fiber so that there is no exposed fiber to be cracked or broken.  The scope feature a new design where the inside of the scope is actually hour glass shaped to allow great field of vision when looked at from an angle.  What this means is that if the bow is torqued, t he sight picture will stay the same.

All of these features add up to make Axcel’s new Armortech HD a very good choice for the hunter or 3D shooter looking for that little edge
