There wasn’t any meat ruined on that? elk. Some ribs were broken. In hunting it doesn’t get any better . PETA stands for people eating tasty animals.

extream long range and ethical hunt shouldnt be said in the same sentence. We owe these animals the upmost respect when hunting them. save? the sniping for steel targets. get into within 300 yards to make a cleen kill.. yes the elk was killed (evendualy) but next time might not be as straight forward.

I believe that bullet might be overkill for deer at short ranges only ( so its in the freezer anyway ). With a J4 jacket and 230 grains its probably an excellent choice for deer and elk at long to extreme ranges beyond 1000 yards. My experience with match bullets has been they will expand better than regular bullets. A few years back I witnessed a huge buffalo that was shot at 648 yards with a sierra 220 match. The bullet blew threw both front shoulders(bones). It? left a 4″ hole on exit.

It sounds like your doing the needed homework on 2 very good bullets. I think either bullet would do the job on elk at 1200 or more yards. The berger target bullets have J4 jackets which expand well at lower velocities. I took a cow elk at 1155 yards with a 210 berger target bullet in 09. It wasnt a perfect hit but took the animal down fast. Would like to know how those bullets shoot at? exteme ranges(1-1.5 miles). If you test them that far out let me know.

Actually the 230 OTM version is only .719 G1 B/C and the 230 Target is .743 B/C. Tried the later but found the Berger 215 Hybrid (.696B/C) in my 300RUM at 3140fps to ballistically outperform the 230 target out to 1200 yards. At the extended ranges you shoot, the 230 target may be the one to go with. My goal is to take it to 1200y on elk if needed with a certain level of velocity and energy, it does fit the bill. ? Took a very nice Roosie bull at just over 1k last season with the 210VLD’s.

Welp been testing out the 230s think I? found a good node at 67.2 and 67.8 of IMR 4831 with no pressure issues had a couple good groups at 900 yards will do a little bit further testing but having great expectations. I did have a few people tell me to not use the 230 OTMs for deer at long range so I guess I’ll have to test um out and see I think they will do fine

A good friend of mine is shooting those 230′s now with excellent? results. He is out to 1500 yards so far. Im waiting to see how they perform at 1 mile. Then the big test will be 2700 yards. If it does well I may switch. Looks like a very well designed bullet. Im letting him do all the homework for now. I wore a few barrels out over the years doing the necessary homework. And will wear out some more. I cant wait to see the results on that 230 berger though. His 230 OTM claims a BC of .811. WOW !
