Hoochie Mama Elk Hunt

This is some East Kootenay Bow Hunting for Rocky Mountain Elk. Every morning I would get up and my cousin kinda sets us up where to go…we kinda pick from his spots. Anyway, I’ve seen the herds of Elk in this field but they always leave just before sun up. But we go everyday, and sometimes there are a few stragglers…and we hunt them up. Well, this day there were three calf Elk that were laggin behind and it was starting to get pretty light out…and I saw them…so I gave them a call with my PRIMOS HUNTING CALL the HOOCHIE MAMA. Well, at first they didn’t really respond. But then after a while I could get them to stop and look. And later on as one left the field, I got the other to stay and come towards me more…and then he went to leave again, and again I called him with the Hoochie Mama and he came right to me. Problem is that I was videoing and using my Call…my bow was laying down in the grass…and I was pretty much in the open at the edge of the field in full camo so I blended in untill I tried to move…once I went to drop my camera and grab my bow…that Elk turned on a dime and was gone like a lightning bolt. It was cool to see…wish I got that on film. It was awesome to have called the Calf in so close to me in the open…it got to about 20 yards of me…but by the time I got the bow up and safety off and aimed the Elk was nearly 65 yards away with only an a$$ shot. But it was fun…I called in other extreme extreme elk hunting hunting too…I’ll have to look through all my footage to

i’m usually pretty good at pissing guys off when i try just a little…i’ll keep this in mind for next buck season…

Eventually after several intervals of calling they will often get to the point where they just have to stop what there doing (eating, resting or what have you) and come over for a look see…sometimes they sneak in and you never do see em (or maybe you do) and sometimes they come a running with some eagerness or even attitude.
Bucks can be so grand and a wild display of character is always worth the wait.

i got a wild display of character of my own in mind if one wants to come in…attitude or no..hahahahah

  7. anavidhunter says:

Your fiesty today! Meow kitty…settle down.
ahahaha…I bet you do have some attitude after waiting out the wind, moon and what not only to have the buck season end and deliver the weather you wanted so soon after the close.

Some bucks may be with a doe and you won’t get them to come to a call if they’ve found there girl arleady…but you can get the girl to come some calls and then he will come to defend his betty.
Often Doe’s will come to see if there is a better suiter a calling

Yes, in some areas in our Province we have such increased population growth in various species including Rocky Mountain Elk where they encourage you to harvest to reduce things like car accidents, Flora degradation and Winter kill and suffering…so they open not only extended or new seasons but sometimes allow either sex and any size or age harvests…which is great for bow hunters who can find it more difficult to have success with their harvests.
Thanks a lot Tom, glad you enjoyed this one.

ok, Every time i pull out an elk steak and sit down to a good meal, i will thing of how uneducated you are. I hunt, because i am a hunter. I eat meat because i am a predator.

I guess it all depends on where you live…some people depend on hunting to fill their freezers for the winter….that’s the way it is here in my territory….

Hoochie Mama is an Elk Call. Go to a sporting goods store and im sure there will be one on the wall.

All of gods creatures have their place in the world….right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy!

    Good video! 5 stars

  22. anavidhunter says:

    Thank you Denise…
Well, I am fortunate enough to not have to absolutely depend on hunting for my food, but I definitely prefer it and it is far more humane than the grocery store ever could come close to.
Not to mention much healthier to eat.
No preservatives, added hormones, and no antibiotics or other drugs and medicines…nature is the best grocery store!
    Thanks again.

Thank you, I’m happy you enjoyed it.

I remember the first time I heard the name of this new PRIMOS Elk Call, the “HOOCHIE MAMA”…I thought it was a bit much for the name too…it really is more of a joke and not supposed to be taken in a derogatory way.
Wil Primos is a very good man and he respects and loves nature as much as anybody.

    I appreciate your comment, thanks.

    apachesbutterfly
Really? they sell elk meat down at the local grocery store?,, Yes apachesbutterfly animals were put on this earth for a reason,, our consumption. Read the Bible,, there are a lot of people that use hunting to feed there family’s. I suppose your against fishing also. I’d rather eat what i shoot or catch than whats sold at the local grocery store.
