Colorado Fly Fishing – My Trip to Steamboat Springs Colorado
The majestic Rocky Mountain region of the United States is one of the most exciting, enchanting and versatile fly fishing destinations. It is also one of the most over looked -simply because the information available is either too general, or, too activity specific to paint a picture of all that any one particular area has to offer.
For over 20 years our family has treasured time spent on and off the beaten trails of the Rockies. Today we are drawing from our experience to make fly fishing in Colorado more accessible to anglers everywhere.

It’s a beautiful day for fly-fishing on the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The rainbow trout there are wily, but with the proper fly and technique, they can be out-foxed. I am anxious to get started, and I have two professional river guides to turn to for help. It’s not long before I have my line in the water, and those fish are taking the bait. We creep in for the hunt and find the perfect hole where “”big daddy”” is waiting. A raccoon meanders on the other side of the river hoping to get in on the action. This is incredible. I notice that nature is taking care of the entomology. I see flies starting to hatch as I wait to play the next fish.
On day two of my weekend adventure, I head back out to fish, this time at the Elk River; another river near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Another successful day of
Colorado fly fishing ends with the fight of the day and playing a large rainbow trout to see who wins. It is exciting as I get him in the net and then release him back. We are both exhausted.
