Northwest Montana – Outdoor Paradise
If you like outdoor activities, northwest Montana is the place for you. If you’re into hiking, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, camping, boating, skiing, and pretty much anything else that has to do with outdoor activities, you must give northwest Montana a shot when it comes to your next get away. The population is incredibly small, which makes plenty of room for everyone. I like to fish, and on a nice summer morning on my favorite river, I might see three or four other anglers, and that’s on a crowded day! The same goes for hiking and mountain biking.
I personally have no interest is killing defenseless animals, but hunting is a favorite outdoor activity of many people in the area. There are tons of deer and even the occasional elk and moose. For those of you interested in a bit more dangerous quarry, there are plenty of mountain lions and bear for you to hunt. And there are plenty of ducks in the fall for anyone interested in taking some of those bad boys out of the sky.
For the angler, there are plenty of opportunities as well. The rivers are full of native rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout and the lakes are home to fish such as lake trout, pike, bass, whitefish, and perch, just to name a few. As a matter of fact, Flathead Lake boasts one of the best Lake Trout fisheries in the country, with twenty to twenty five pound “”lakers”” being a fairly common occurrence. There are also tons of smaller lakes in northwest Montana that are home to stocked trout and even some grayling. Yep, there are plenty of fishing opportunities for everyone.
Glacier National Park is located on the north end of northwest Montana and is world renowned for its incredible scenery. The park covers an area of approximately 1.4 million acres of wilderness and boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the entire western United States. Although the park is open year round, because of weather concerns spring and summer are the most popular times to visit. The peak visitor season is June through September.
Northwest Montana is home to “”Big Mountain”” ski area which is the largest in the area, and “”Black Tail Mountain”” which is a bit smaller. Many skiers and snow boarders come to northwest Montana for those activities. Big Mountain even has a snowboard park for anyone who fancies such things. Outdoor opportunities abound for people even in the winter in Northwest Montana.
As far as outdoor activities go, it doesn’t get a whole lot better than northwest Montana. Give the area some consideration for your next vacation or get away. Be careful though, because many people who visit end up not going back to wherever they came from.
